Summer in Review: San Antonio
This summer I made my grand return to the land of the Riverwalk, the Alamo and great tacos for a weekend with family. I hadn't been since a school field trip when I was 13, so you could say I was experiencing the city with fresh eyes. Read on for some highlights!
Where we stayed: Embassy Suites San Antonio Riverwalk Downtown

Pros: Rooms were spacious with living areas and kitchenettes and some even had small balconies. The hotel was also in a central location downtown with easy access to the Riverwalk.
Cons: The hotel had an older feel and showed its age in spots. The onsite restaurant was pricier than expected for a mid-range property and the menu was pretty limited.
Overall, I would consider this a pretty standard Embassy Suites. A solid choice if you're looking for a centrally located hotel that won't break the bank. It has all the usual comforts including free breakfast and spacious rooms, but that's pretty much where the extras stop.

We did a 35-minute narrated cruise and it was honestly a blast. Long enough to enjoy the views and take in the Riverwalk, but not so long that you'd get bored or feel trapped. Our tour leader was super engaging and funny, and as a lifelong San Antonio-an (?) he knew his stuff. Would recommend!

Hopscotch is described as an "immersive art gallery" which is not always my vibe, but this was a winner. It's basically a collection of interactive art exhibits that "aim to elicit a sense of joy and wonder." We had everything from a giant LED ball pit to a laser graffiti wall and a light therapy room. Super fun for groups of all ages and plenty of photo ops for any up and coming influencers :).

I mean, you gotta do it. You can make it a quick stop or a half-day excursion, but either way it's always fun to take in some history.

This restaurant....was not good. It's described as a 'Tuscan Steakhouse' but I wasn't really getting that from the menu. I stuck to soup and salad and was still disappointed
with both the food and the bill. With this hotel being so centrally located, I'd recommend skipping this one.
Bunz Handcrafted Burgers

This was a good old neighborhood burger joint that did not disappoint. You combine great burgers with excellent fries and a decadent selection of milkshakes and you can't go wrong. No notes!
All in all, my weekend in San Antonio was a great little getaway. I'll try not to wait 18 years before I come back for another visit!
Ciao,
Nicole
